If you haven't already read part one of some outrageously unbelievable stories and "facts", we heard from people that moved recently here, you can find it here.

Cops don't have the right to search you

The legend says: Well, this time it is not only the legend but also the film Pulp Fiction where this conversation takes place:

Vincent: Breaks down like this, okay: it's legal to buy it, it's legal to own it, and if you're the proprietor of a hash bar, it's legal to sell it. It's illegal to carry it, but that doesn't really matter 'cause, get a load of this, all right; if you get stopped by the cops in Amsterdam, it's illegal for them to search you. I mean, that's a right the cops in Amsterdam don't have.

Explanation: A cop in Amsterdam does not have the right to search unless he has a specific reason to suspect that you are doing something illegal. This is the rule with one exception! Since 2011 it is possible for a mayor to name a specific area as a safety risk area, like the center of Amsterdam, which is in fact one of those safety risk areas. That gives the right to the police to search you & your bag.

The Netherlands is sinking and we all are going to drown eventually (at some undetermined point)!

The legend says: Netherlands, like Venice, is under the water & is sinking. The Dutch are building the dykes to keep the water out.

Explanation: The western parts of The Netherlands, provinces Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland and Zeeland (more than the half of the country) are, for real, below sea level. No Dutch is really worried though about flooding because of their innovative system of dykes, dunes, canals and barrages to break the water. They are already anticipating the rising of sea levels due to climate change with many of the dykes and dunes having been enforced in recent years.

Prostitutes in Red light are sitting inside the windows because it's cold!

The legend says: There are many "legends" why the prostitutes are sitting behind closed windows waiting for the clients. Some say it is the cold, others say it is for protection and everything seems right.

Explanation:The real reason goes back to the 1930′s were street prostitution wasn't allowed by the police. The girls could however sit behind the window glass, with the curtains closed and peek outside to make the contact. This was the birth of the window prostitution.
