Giannis Veslemes, a man with two properties, the musician and the director, but also with a lot of pseudonyms. He will be releasing his new studio album “Parnitha” this November, from which we already have a taste with the track “Discopathia”, a now favorite track for its sound, lyrics and originality.

How would you describe your music?

Treehouse.

Love Songs For Biscuits And Tea.

Riot Disco.

Do you remember the day you started to compose?

Yes. I had heard when I was on my second grade of gymnasium a track by Iannis Xenakis from a teacher that happened to play it in class. It was a record (which in never found out which one it was) influenced by ancient egypt. As soon as I got back home I tried to record something similar with a casio toy keyboard and a tape recorder. I almost did it.

Was it something that you wanted to do since you were young or was just another need for expression born?

It was something that my parents suggested and then they enrolled me in piano lessons.

I read that when you were young you said that you wanted to be a director and you have succeeded at becoming one. Are you a person that chases his dreams until the become reality? What is the next dream?

Where did you read that? I don’t recall having said something like that.. I decided to become a director at 14 years old when I randomly discovered a super 8 camera and started making short movies with friends. But also when I saw Eraserhead at the Asti cinema in 1993.

One could spot the cinematic influences through your music. How are those two properties linked in your head either when you are directing or when are composing?

Surprisingly they are not linked. Only when I compose soundtracks for friends movies. Unfortunately I compose a lot of soundtracks even for full length movies. It is something that most composers wish they could do, but for me it looks like a hardship.

What kind music are you listening this month?

I listen to Techno Pop by Kraftwerk in a black vinyl and the english speaking record of The Boy, American Unicorn in blue.

When did you decide to become Felizol? What is the inspiration behind such an original name?

No great inspiration. I saw it in a neon sign. I really like neon. I have a lot of neon in my movie but also in my living room as well.

We heard the track “Discopatheia” and you got our attention! When can we hear more?

My first Greek speaking record “Parnitha” will be released within November by Sportex Audio.

Are you considering English lyrics to broaden your audience? How many votes do we need to gather so that we can also have “Discopatheia” in english or at least subtitled? (because its so nice!)

Hmm.. I made a record in Greek to grow my audience. I already released two albums in english and a lot of EP’s.

What other cooperations are in the horizon?

This month an EP that we did with The Boy as The Boy & Felizol is getting released. Its called Mother.

Will we see you around Europe on a live event?

Not likely, but, I do hope you see my movie, “Norway” in some festival.
